AFP, Smart-PLDT setup Rolling Store in Camp Aguinaldo

CALOOCAN CITY, May 25 (PIA) --To provide basic necessities for soldiers and their dependents, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in partnership with Smart-PLDT held a rolling store activity here on Saturday, May 23.

The telecommunications company set up the rolling store at the Lapu-Lapu Grandstand inside Camp Aguinaldo. Military personnel, dependents as well as Civilian Human Resources residing inside camp and in nearby areas participated in the whole-day bazaar.

The activity sought to lessen unnecessary travel by residents who intend to buy essential goods outside camp thus helping limit the spread of the corona virus disease (COVID19).

The Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana and Mr. Manny Pangilinan led the opening of the bazaar together with AFP Deputy Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Erickson Gloria, and AFP GHQ and Headquarters Service Commander Brigadier General Rodolfo Lavadia Jr, Commander.

Also present were Ms. Maria Esther Santos, President of PLDT Smart Foundation; Mr. Jeffrey Tarayao, president of One Meralco Foundation, Ms. Anette De Ocampo, Assiatnt Vice President and Head, Government Relation of Maynilad.

Aside from telecommunications gadgets, the AFP invited business firms and other merchants that offer essential goods and services. Available were grocery items, vegetables, clothing, hygiene items and personal protective equipment such as face masks.

“The Armed Forces of the Philippines is grateful for the assistance of Smart-PLDT and other stakeholders to alleviate the negative effects of the COVID19 pandemic to our soldiers, dependents and civilian workforce. This shall inspire our members to better perform their duties in winning over the deadly virus,” AFP Chief of Staff General Felimon Santos Jr. said.
