TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, May 27 (PIA) - - There were already more than 200 returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) assisted by  Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) region 2 to return to their home provinces this month.

Luzviminda Tumaliuan, officer-in-charge, said all repatriated or returning OFWs who were affected by the global health pandemic underwent quarantine and RT-PCR testing in the facilities prepared for them in Manila.

"We coordinated with a bus company here for the resumption of our Balik Probinsiya Hatid Sundo program for OFWs this month," Tumaliuan said.

She also said they are expecting more OFWs to come home following the pronouncement of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) that there are more than 34,000 overseas contract workers from the different COVID-19 affected countries who signified their intent to go back to their respective provinces in the Philippines.

On the other hand, there were already P26.4 million fund released to 2, 647 OFWs who were affected by COVID-19 through the DOLE-AKAP program. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
