CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, June 2 - Department of Trade and Inudstry (DTI) has released the guidelines on minimum health protocols for barbershops and salons to comply first before they are allowed to reopen beginning June 7.
The guidelines are intended to ensure the safety of employees and customers amidst the pandemic as barbershops and salons have been allowed to operate in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) at 30% capacity and in modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) at 50 percent capacity.
Per Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Resolution No. 40, Northern Mindanao is recommended under MGCQ from June 1 to June 15.
DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez in his interview on Dobol B sa News TV clarified that basic services such as haircut and hairstyling will only be offered as of the moment when barbershops and salons open. Other servies such as pedicure, manicure, threading, shaving, shampooing, waxing, and massagw treatment are not yet allowed since it requires longer physical contact.
Under the DTI guidelines, establishments must post information to entrances and other prominent areas the enforcement of wearing face masks, social distancing protocols, maximum number of allowable persons, regular sanitation schedule and procedure, client-person interaction protocols, and enforcement measures for clients who refuse to comply with the protocols.
Companions of customers will not be allowed inside the barbershops and salons, unless absolutely necessary. Contactless appointments and payments are encouraged; small trays are to be provided for cash payments.
Floor mat or foot bath with disinfectant, thermal scanner, and alcohol that can easily be sprayed on the client’s hands are required to be placed at the entrance. Health checklist must be distributed to clients upon entry and a system where personall effects of clients including bags, jackets and gadgets are disinfected and deposited in secured plastic bags should be implemented.
Face shields must also be distributed to clients availing of shampoo services.
Chair must be at least one meter apart on all sides. There must be visible floor markings to guide the clients. Personal effects of personnel must be placed in plastic bags stored in an area inaccessible to clients.
Face masks must be readily available for sale or to be given for free to clients. Pieces of furniture that are made of porous materials must be covered in plastic for ease of sanitation and there should be strict use of disposable-only menus, reading materials, and magazines.
Barbershops and salons should be properly ventilated. Equipment and tools that are visible to clients will be sanitized. Workstation will be sterilized before and after each service.
Employees of barbershops and salons must be free from COVID-19 symptoms and should have no exposure to COVID-19 patients to be allowed to work. They must also declare their health and whereabouts prior to every duty in case contact tracing becomes necessary.
Employees are mandated to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) inlcuding but not limited to face mask, face shield, eye glasses, gloves, hair caps, and closed shoes. Proper personal hygiene like having clipped fingernails must be observed. Wearing of any pieces of jewelry is not allowed.
No accreditation is needed to reopen barbershops and salons but operations audit will be conducted to check the compliance of establishments. Shops found to be non-compliant will be ordered to correct the insufficiencies.
