DUMAGUETE CITY, July 5 (PIA) -- The number of active COVID-19 cases in Negros Oriental rose to 16 as 11 individuals who came from Cebu were reported to be positive for the coronavirus.
Negros Oriental Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion announced this in a press briefing yesterday.
Part of the said new cases reported yesterday is a 36-year old male in Guihulngan City who is the son-in-law of the 79-year old male who was earlier confirmed to have contracted the virus.
They came from Brgy. Tisa in Cebu City and arrived in the province on June 19.
They rode a private vehicle going to Guihulngan City.
He is currently staying in a quarantine facility of the Local Government Unit (LGU).
His 79-year old father-in-law was already admitted in a private hospital in this city.
Another is a 45-year old male of Sibulan and identified as an Authorized Person Outside Residence (APOR).
He is asymptomatic but admitted in a private hospital due to an accident while traveling to the province.
Also included in the 11 new cases is a 36-year old female resident of Silab, Amlan.
She came from Mandaue City and arrived in the province on June 25.
She developed cough and fever on June 26 but her condition improved after three days.
Estacion disclosed that the immediate family members of the 36-year old female will also be subject for swab testing.
Another person with confirmed COVID-19 infection is a 20-year old male in Jimalalud who also came from Cebu.
He is asymptomatic and placed in an LGU-designated quarantine facility.
Meanwhile, seven officers of the 302nd Infantry Brigade (IB) of the Philippine Army who were deployed to Cebu to augment the security forces there during the imposition of Enhanced Community Quanratine have tested positive for COVID-19 infection.
Estacion said they returned to their headquarters at Camp Leon Kilat, Tanjay City on June 21 and were placed in a designated isolation facility in their headquarters.
She added the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) will also conduct swab tests on 33 other soldiers of the 302nd IB who were also deployed in Cebu.
Swab samples from the confirmed COVID-19 patients were taken on June 30 and the results came out on July 3.
Meanwhile, Estacion also reported that the 48-year old male who was diagnosed with COVID-19 and is currently admitted in a private hospital in the city is not yet cleared from the virus since the result of his second swab test yielded positive results.
However, his 33-year old girlfriend who was also found to be positive with the virus is now cleared from the infection after the swab test showed negative result.
The assistant provincial health officer underscored that the active COVID-19 cases reported in the province are Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) and APORs, noting there is still no local transmission in the province.
“Sa pagkakaroon (for now) I cannot say there is a local transmission. All are imported from Cebu,” Estacion told members of the media.
Still, she reminded the public to be vigilant especially since the number of active cases here have already increased.
“We should be careful. Ang advise sa epidemiologist sa (DOH) Region 7, we should wear mask, maghinaw, gamit ug alcohol, physical distancing kay di kuno makatakod if we practice the health protocols (We should be careful. The epidemiologist from DOH Region-7 is we should wear mask, wash hands regularly, disinfect with alcohol, observe physical distancing because the virus cannot spread if we follow these health protocols),” she said.
