Bohol authorities recover 8 kilos of shabu in 6 months

CORTES, Bohol July 5 (PIA) -- Government narcotics agents in cooperation with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other allied law enforcment and investigating agencies recovered nearly P55 million worth of drugs in the first six months of the year.

In his report during the virtual joint meetings of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) last week, Bohol Police Chief, Police Sr. Supt. Joselito Clarito, said the campaign against illegal drugs from January to June netted over eight kilos of illegal drugs.

Clarito, who used to work with the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group and was assigned as Bohol’s new police director since April 29, has since been credited for the two months when the authorities recovered a total of 4.59459 kilos of illegal drugs.

The recovery is pegged to have a Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) estimated value reaching P54,813,440.

In January of this year, authorities recovered in province-wide operations some 407.24 grams of substance believed to be methamphetamine, valued by authorities at P2,769,232.

By February, recovered were 284.21 grams, and with a DDB value of P1.932,628.

In March, when in the middle of the month supply from outside Bohol stopped with the No Sailing Policy, police recovered 187.16 grams valued at P1,272,688.

When April came, Camp Dagohoy authorities reported a recovery of illegal drugs weighing 568.60 grams and with a value pegged at P3,995,680.

In May, Bohol Police recovered 6.562.81 grams or 6.5 kilos of methamphetamine with a DDB value of P44,627108 (million), with the biggest drug haul coming from two separate operations.

Last June, authorities recovered 31.78 grams, with a DDB value estimated at P216,104.

All in all, in the first four months before Clarito assumed as the top police officer in Bohol, authorities managed to recover a total of P1,466.21 grams with a combined DDB value of P 9,970,328.00.

Under Clarito, the biggest drug haul in a day was on May 25, 20202 when separate police operations caught up with couple Lelit Dajao, who was nabbed in a buy bust in Tagbilaran and her husband Jaime Dajao, in a separate operation in their residence in Tanghaligue, Talibon.

Observers presumed that a huge haul of meth or shabu was coursed through the re-opened boat trips from Cebu, when Bohol started accepting repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers and Locally Stranded Individuals.

In his evaluation, Clarito said the unceasing operation and apprehension of illegal drug personalities and confiscation of illegal drugs is a clear indication that illegal drugs is still in high demand in the province.

The high demand will motivate continuous entry of supplies, he continued.

With Bohol’s population at 1.3 million and tourist arrivals at 1.5 million and with a record number of drug surrenderees at 40,000, it is quite a good number to motivate drug syndicates to continue their illegal drug trade here.

But the Bohol police chief has assured continued optimized collaborative and coordinated efforts by the PDEA, PNP and other allied law enforcement agencies.

The police also bared that they will continue to enhance their intelligence-driven operations to assure the arrest of big-time illegal drug personalities.

On the soft side of law enforcement, Clarito also revealed that the whole-of-nation strategy would be applied to hasten the drug clearing operations, effective tracking, and rehabilitation of illegal drug personalities. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
