CHR Caraga orients LGUs, RLAs on ‘Gender Ombud’

BUTUAN CITY, July 6 -- The Commission on Human Rights (CHR)-Caraga conducted an online learning session on "CHR as Gender Ombud" to local government units (LGUs) and regional line agencies (RLAs) on June 30, 2020.

With the end goal of increasing the attendees’ knowledge and appreciation of CHR as the Gender Ombud, CHR Caraga discussed the Magna Carta of Women; the roles and functions of the Gender Ombud; and the programs and services of the CHR to the attendees.

One of the highlights also is the orientation of the e-Report sa Gender Ombud, which is an online system where people can report incidents of gender-based violence (GBV) and other cases that occur during the global health crisis caused by the pandemic. This was launched by the Commission on April 27, 2020.

Attendees were provincial and city social welfare and development officers and provincial gender and development focal persons of Agusan del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Butuan City. Key staff from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, and Department of Health were also present.
