DAVAO CITY, July 29 (PIA) – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST XI) has recently launched Halal Training Modules that will be used to provide the food industry a larger share of the market by providing access to a wider consumer-base.
The efforts by DOST in the development of the Halal Training Modules is in line with Republic Act No. 10817 or an act instituting the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Program.
The Regional Director for DOST XI Dr. Anthony C. Sales discussed how the said modules will be able to address both the technical aspect of food production and also recognize the Religious sensitivity that comes with food manufacturing and preparation.
“It is very important that our food products are compliant with the current quality and safety standards and also we have religious requirements such as no pork and pork derivatives in our products while all the materials that we use in food production should not be contaminated by pork or pork-related products,” Sales said.
With the said developments, the DOST is looking towards introducing the local Halal food industry to the international export market. This is because the Halal Training Modules that DOST recently launched are in-line with international Halal standards in food manufacturing and production.
“There will be a big impact on our [food] industry – so we’re not just talking about the local or domestic Halal market but also the global Halal market since we have exporters here in Mindanao and also other parts of the country,” Sales added. (KPLCaro/PIA XI)
