Gitagum SK limits youth access to leisure parks to contain COVID-19 spread

MISAMIS ORIENTAL, July 29 (PIA) – To support the “Stay At Home” directive issued by the local government unit (LGU) to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Poblacion, Gitagum, Misamis Oriental has limited the access of the youth to their leisure parks such as basketball courts and playgrounds to prevent the spread of the virus.

Instead, the youth have devoted their time assisting in relief goods distribution and keeping themselves connected online.

“We know that the youth, especially the younger ones, like to play basketball. However, due to the pandemic we have right now, we decided to close  down  leisure parks in support of the provincial and municipal ordinances encouraging the public to stay at home," Gitagum SK President Climavaelle Namuag said.

Namuag also added that they have explained to their community the significance of said ordinance, as they conduct public awareness campaign on the prevention and control of the virus.

To give the youth some sort of entertainment, they embarked on online challenges to keep them engaged amid the pandemic.

Namuag also disclosed that their information campaign is not only limited to social media, as they leveraged other means of information dissemination like distribution of posters and flyers  as well as holding “recorida’s” especially in the rural areas.

“I hope all of us would adhere to the rules and regulations starting with wearing of facemasks and observing physical distancing. Let us not forget to pray to God to guide us and protect us always,” she concluded. (VPSBautista/PIA Misamis Oriental)
