With Cebu City still battling with a high number of COVID-19 cases and several barangays facing lockdown, Globe Telecom continues to extend its assistance to select hospitals and barangays in the area to help ease the impact of the pandemic on medical and auxiliary staff.
There are currently over 8,000 COVID-19 cases in Cebu City alone, leaving hospitals which are overburdened with patients, in need of additional personal protective equipment (PPE). In response to this, Globe distributed a total of 40,000 face masks and 500 faceshields to the following: Chong Hua Hospital- Fuente and Mandaue, Perpetual Succour Hospital, Cebu Doctors University Hospital, SWU (Southwestern University) Medical Center, Cebu City Medical Center, Visayas Community Medical Center, Talisay District Hospital, Miller Hospital and some barangay isolation and quarantine centers .
This was done through collaborative efforts with 1CebuVolunteerDoctorsforCOVID, a group of volunteer doctors in Cebu. “Our fight still continues as the number of cases increases and Cebu’s manpower and infrastructure are at risk of buckling anytime. It is with this necessity that our group directs its efforts to find protective equipment and gear to respond directly to those most in need. We hope to protect Cebu with your kindness and support,” said Dr. Ellie May Villegas who leads 1CebuVolunteerDoctorsforCOVID.
"We know that the threat remains far from over. This is why we are steadfast in our commitment to continuously help our frontliners in whatever way we can to keep them safe and healthy,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.
Earlier, Globe sent 4,500 pcs of facemasks, 100 pcs of PPEs and 100 pcs of face shields to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center which serves as a COVID-19 testing center. The hospital also received eight mobile postpaid SIM cards with free ALLNet P799 monthly service fee. University of the Philippines College of Medicine Cebu was, likewise, given 100 SIM cards preloaded with unlimited text and call to all networks for 45 days which doctors use to monitor patients under investigation.
During the first three months of the pandemic, Globe was able to come up with over P1.3 billion in combined services and assistance packages for COVID-19. This consists of support for Globe employees and vendor partners, services and promos, external fund-raising efforts, monetary and in-kind donations, and toll-free access to relevant government hotlines and websites.
