Stop Terrorism, ensure public safety - RD Cambay

ZAMBOANGA CITY, June 29 (PIA) - The Police Regional Office (PRO) - IX shared the plans and programs of the Philippine National Police (PNP) under the new leadership of Regional Director, Police Brigadier General (PBGEN) Jesus D. Cambay Jr. to proactively address threats to peace and order as well as to ensure the public safety from lawless elements all over the region.

In a virtual interview via Kapihan na Zamboanga last week, Gen. Cambay affirmed that the Anti-Terrorism Bill when enacted will be helpful to protect the public from terrorism. “We fully support Anti-Terrorism Bill because it will help and ensure the safety of the constituents in the entire Zamboanga Peninsula (ZamPen) from any acts of terrorism”.

Lawless elements, terrorist presence such as the Abu Sayyaf and communist terrorists and eleven criminal gangs remain in Zamboanga Peninsula and in the neighboring areas as per National Intelligence Coordinating Agency's (NICA) assessment.

“Kami po ay humihingi ng kooperasyon sa ating mga constituents na kung sakali na may napansin silang hindi karaniwang tao sa kanilang lugar, please report it to the nearest police stations, he appealed.

[“We are asking the cooperation of our dearest constituents, if there are unscrupulous persons in their respective places, please report it to the nearest police stations”]

The newly installed regional director plans to create an anti-criminality task force with the military and other stakeholders from the security sector.

The PNP in the region maintains its drive against illegal drugs, cyber-crime and to cut logistics access of communist terrorist groups with the constant support of the Local Government Units (LGUs).

“I hope these communist terrorist groups will end soon for us to have free movement and so that the development and peace of our region will not be anymore hampered," Cambay disclosed. (RVC/JRA/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
