DAVAO DEL NORTE, July 28—The local government of Tagum City is one of the first in Davao Region to realign its Special Education Fund allocating Php 27.6 million to support the Learning Continuity Plan of Tagum City Schools Division of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Dr. Josephine L. Fadul, Tagum City Schools’ Division superintendent thanked Tagum LGU for the “overwhelming support since everything that DepEd needs is being taken care of”.
“Once you belong to DepEd Tagum City, you feel like you have a strong wind beneath your wings,” described Fadul during the turn-over of supplies from LGU Tagum at DepEd Division Office on July 20.
To raise internet connectivity of remote schools, Tagum LGU mounted Point-to-Point towers in Pandapan Intergrated School (IS), Busaon IS, Liboganon IS, Pagsabangan Elementary School (ES), Cabugan ES, New Balamban ES and San Agustin ES, and to further equip teachers, a minimum of 7 laptops per school will also be distributed.
In the production of modules for distant learning, the purchase of 7 duplicating machines for identified schools was approved by the LGU which was supplemented with the donated reams of bond paper, ink, printer and other supplies like flash drives and Wifi modems amounting to Php 500 thousand though the Tagumpay Tabang Eskwela Project CONNECT under the Public Education and Employment Service Office (PEESO).
The City Council has also given its share as the local legislators realigned its budget allocation in the Social Reform Agenda – Minimum Basic Need for the purchase of reams of bond paper and ink.
As part of its comprehensive plan to systematically deliver the learning modules to students, the LGU hired Barangay Employment Desk Officers that will help in the delivery and retrieval of accomplished modules with the assistance of the vehicles to be provided by the LGU to each barangay as part of its loan application.
Furthermore, the LGU has urged the barangay health personnel to help in the School-Based Feeding Program and bring the feeding supplies to homes of identified wasted students.
To promote DepEd advocacies and the radio-based and TV-based instruction, Tagum LGU offered various broadcast platforms like TV channel as well as radio together with the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte which also offered two-hour slot for radio and TV programs-on-air whose Memorandum of Agreement in on process as of the press time.
Ensuring stringent measures in schools, Tagum LGU also fabricated foot-operated hand washing facilities with hand dryer worth Php 5.9 million in support of DepEd’s Wash in Schools (WInS) Program.
In line with the Brigada Eskwela, the LGU also donated supplies worth Php 500 thousand to 38 schools and electrical supplies amounting to Php 1.6 million.
As part of its long term plan, the LGU purchased a 2-hectare land at Barangay Madaum as school site for the stand-alone Senior High School.
In his speech during the turn-over ceremony of supplies from Project Connect, Mayor Rellon said that despite the crisis brought by the pandemic, the LGU is one with DepEd in delivering quality education.
