2020 Census of Population and Housing commences on Sept. 1

LAOAG CITY, Aug. 31 (PIA) – Get ready for enumerators from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) knocking on your gates or doors for the 2020 Census on Population and Housing (CPH) starting Tuesday, September 1 to be conducted nationwide.

They will be in their uniform shirt, identification card, with their clipboards, envelop-full of questionnaire sheets, and more importantly wearing their personal protective equipment like face masks and face shields.

In Ilocos Norte, target number of households to be enumerated is at 144,512 in all 23 towns.

Each survey per household can be finished within 15 to 30 minutes with a face-to-face interview.

The PSA assures the public full confidentiality on the information that will be gathered from the said census.

“This is so far the most challenging census that we will undertake because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic but we are putting the safety of our enumerators as priority,” Marilyn Vergara, chief statistical specialist, said.

She added, “From the training of the enumerators, we have abided by the guidelines of the provincial government and all the minimum health protocols required.”

If face-to-face interview with the respondents is not possible due to particular situations in the area, the enumerators will conduct the other alternative modes of data gathering such as a self-administered questionnaire of the respondents using telephone or cellphone, and data gathering online.

As their theme says “Sama na, Census Na!”, let your household be counted in this year’s Census of Population and Housing. (JCR/AMB/JDS/PIA La Union)
