ILOILO CITY, Aug. 14 (PIA) –   Housing program is one of the government’s projects being given focus in Western Visayas.

Assistant Secretary Jonji Gonzales of the Office of Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) said that Bacolod City in Negros Occidental was chosen as one of the two pilot cities in the implementation of two housing projects of the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the Subdivision Housing Developers' Association.

In the August 12 Laging Handa Network Briefing hosted by Presidential Communications Operations Office secretary Martin Andanar where Gonzales was among the guests, he noted that despite the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, government projects continue in the Visayas.

“Since Bacolod City has a local shelter plan which was approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, they conducted a virtual launching of the partnership between the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development and Bacolod City government,” he said.

It was during said launching of partnership when Mayor Evelio Leonardia presented the city shelter plan to the DHSUD consisting of the upgrading requirements for households and affordable housing options and resources needed

Dubbed as “BALAI Filipino” Program or Building Adequate, Livable, Affordable and Inclusive Filipino communities aims to provide housing opportunities to every Filipino.

Gonzales also revealed that in Bacolod City they have identified three relocation sites.

These relocation sites include the 88-hectare land in Progreso Village in Barangay Vista, Alegre; Handumanan relocation site with 95 hectares land, and the 5-hectare Fortune Towne Relocation site in Barangay Estefania.
