ISABELA CITY, Basilan August 18 (PIA) – Members of the Sangguniang Kabataan and some active youth volunteers in Binuangan, Isabela City expressed during the CDIVN Orientation recently their willingness to help children cope up with their studies during this pandemic through youth tutoring program.
Around 20 youth in Barangay Binuangan attended the Community Development Information Volunteers Network Orientation with sessions on Gender and Development (GAD)/HIV and Reproductive Health Awareness and Responsible Use of Social Media. This activity is part of the celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan as celebrated every 12th of August.
During the said activity, the participants were asked to discuss some of their future plans and programs to help their constituents especially at this time of crisis wherein youths’ and children’s education are very much affected.


They said that they are looking forward to help children cope up with their studies knowing that some of the children in their community needs assistance in their lessons since that modular learning were chosen to be the learning modality in the city.
“We have youth here who were education graduates and who are taking up education course. We know that we can help in our own way to assist those who really needed assistance in their lessons,” Mark Vincent Patiño, an active youth participant said.
In support to this, SK Chairperson Jake Manlangit said that they can also utilize part of their SK funds for this program.
For this year, the Sangguniang Kabataan of Binuangan has a total budget of some P200,000 which is 10% of the barangay IRA said Punong Barangay Carmen Delos Reyes.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Basilan who served as resource persons during the activity introduced to the participants how to be responsible in using social media. They also provided orientation on how to become i-volunteers in their barangays.


PIA encouraged participants to help in information dissemination and countering fake news. He said that they can do this by being an i-volunteer in their community and they can also be the source of reliable information especially those that takes place in their areas.
Moreover, Isabela City Population Officer Jesielyn Puno shared the topic on reproductive health wherein she explained responsibilities of the youth to take care of their bodies and to be aware of the repercussions of their actions related to sexual concerns. She asked the participants to be educated and help disseminate right information on reproductive health.
Barangay officials who were also present during the said activity were very grateful for the initiatives of these youth in helping their peers. They said that they are always supportive to whatever plans and programs the Sangguniang Kabataan would like to implement that will contribute to their development to be productive members of their community.
