BuCor conducts annual flu  vaccinations to personnel, PDLs

CALOOCAN CITY, Aug. 31 (PIA) –Bureau of Corrections personnel and persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at Minimum Security Compound in New Bilibid Prison, Mintinlupa City were inoculated with influenza vaccine on Monday.

The vaccination was made possible through the effort of Bureau of Corrections Deputy Director for Health Service CCSUPT Henry N. Fabro MD CFB IDS and his medical team aided by the MinSeCom Infirmary Staff.

Fabro said, the influenza vaccine is being done annually to protect personnel and PDLs from getting the flu, a viral respiratory illness that spreads very easily.

“The flu can lead to serious health complications and possibly death. PDLs are one of society's most vulnerable due to a combination of environmental and socio-behavioral risk factors,” Fabro said.

“The prison environment, with a defined population confined within a limited space, provides a paradigm for this type of preventive intervention strategy,” he added.

Fabro said, the Bureau of Corrections, under the leadership of Director General Usec. Gerald Q. Bantag, prioritizes the access of its employees and PDL to health care system opportunities. (PIA-NCR)
