DOST rolls out S&T interventions in Bukidnon

MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon, Aug. 18—The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Bukidnon, in partnership with Malaybalay local government, recently rolled out twelve newly approved grant-in-aid projects amounting to P4.8 million under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program.

Interventions include the provision of additional one Ton Bioreactor and Charcoal Briquette Equipment for Solid Waste Management; Complementary feeding of malnourished children in various barangays; Provision of STARBOOKS (digitized library), Facilities for hearing-impaired students and alumni, DRRM kits to selected high schools; and Establishment of processing facilities for marginalized Cacao growers, Adlai farmers and Dairy processors.

The program will also establish a nursery for abaca and coffee to provide controlled growing conditions to the plantlets. The nursery will serve as the agency's support to the expanding local market of coffee and abaca in Bukidnon.

CEST is a DOST program especially and specifically dedicated to alleviating poverty through the provision of appropriate Science and Technology (S&T) interventions in the following entry points: Economic Development, Health and Nutrition, Disaster Risk Reduction & Management (DRRM) and Climate Change Adaptation, Human Resource Development, and Environmental Protection.
