Naval Mayor locks down 8 more barangays to contain spread of COVID-19

NAVAL, Biliran, Aug. 24 (PIA) -- While a “granular lockdown” is in effect in critical areas in identified barangay in Naval, Mayor Gerard Roger Espina issued EO No. 27, placing eight more barangays on lockdown effective 6 p.m. on August 23.

On August 21, Mayor Espina issued EO No. 26 implementing “granular lockdown” in identified areas of Brgy. P. I. Garcia to give way for contact tracing activities due to the two new confirmed COVID-19 cases (NB-11 and NB-12), said to be local cases.

Moreover, two new confirmed cases (NB-13 and NB-14) were reported by the Department of Health-Eastern Visayas (DOH-EV) on August 22.  Said cases were identified to be in close contact with NB-11 and NB-12.

With the new locally transmitted cases, Mayor Espina imposed Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) or total lockdown in six more barangays, namely:  Brgy. Smo. Rosario, Brgy. Sto. Niño, Brgy. Atipolo, Brgy. Calumpang, Brgy. Larrazabal, and Brgy. Imelda while a “granular lockdown” was implemented in Brgy. Catmon and Brgy. Talustusan to ensure contract tracing of first layer and second layer contacts of the carriers.

Brgy. PI Garcia, previously in “granular lockdown, is now placed under total lockdown.

With the recent lockdown, people’s movements are limited only to accessing essential goods and services, work, and livelihood.

Business operations are likewise temporarily suspended in ECQ areas except those delivering essential goods and services such as medical establishments; public and basic utility providers;  restaurants on take out basis only;  groceries, bakeries, pharmacies, medical supply and hardware stores; water refilling stations; banks, money remittances and payment centers; gasoline, petroleum, and LPG stations; and funeral parlors and homes, mortuaries and morgues.

Public transportations in the area are likewise suspended.

Mayor Espina, who himself went on a quarantine in a public elementary school being a close contact to NB-12, stressed that the implementation of preemptive measures is aimed at containing the spread of the virus and stop local transmission in the municipality.
