NIATF lauds CDO's COVID-19 case handling

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Aug. 20 (PIA)--"Ako ay nagagalak dahil nakita ko po na kayang-kaya po ng Cagayan de Oro."

(I am glad to see that Cagayan de Oro is capable of handling COVID-19 cases.)

During the CDO's daily press briefing, August 19, National Action Plan on COVID-19 Chief Implementer Carlito Galvez said CDO's response to COVID-19 crisis is very inspiring noting that most of the cases are obtained from locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), and the city has also managed cases on local transmission.

On top of that, Galvez also commended the initiative of the city government through Mayor Oscar Moreno to provide immediate assistance to Iligan City, which is currently challenged with increasing number of COVID-19 cases due to local transmission.

"CDO and Iligan City shared the same past, the same history. We are the gateway to Mindanao and kailangan magtulungan dahil ang problema ng isa ay problema ng lahat (there is a need to help one another since the problem of one will become everybody's problem)," Moreno said.

Moreover, Galvez cited the healthcare facility investment of the city, which is essential to provide immediate response to Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs).

"Napakaganda ng example ng Cagayan de Oro at Davao City na nag-create kayo ng COVID dedicated hospital. Nakita natin ito kaya maganda ang nangyayari dito sa Cagayan de Oro (The creation of COVID dedicated hospital of Cagayan de Oro and Davao City is a very notable example for LGUs. We saw this here thus, there is a good turn out in Cagayan de Oro)," Galvez added.

For his part, Presidential Communications Sec. Martin Andanar commended the city’s anti-discrimation ordinance to protect the frontliners as well as the LGU’s efforts in keeping a balance on health and economy.

“It is very commendable nga paspas ang inyong aksyon (that your action is very quick),” Andanar said.

Andanar also recognized the best practices of the region noting that the NorMin COVID-19 Response Task Force have astoundingly campaigned to accelerate efforts to establish more testing laboratories.

Furthermore, as the Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security, Andanar said he continuously monitors the initiatives of LGUs in the region as well as he backs the media to reinforce in the fight against infodemic or fake news proliferation in the country.

Galvez along with Contact Tracing Czar Mayor Benjamin Magalong are conducting their visits to highly urbanized cities and areas with high incidence of COVID-19 cases to provide immediate assistance such as the provision of testing kits, personal protective equipment (PPEs), and the LGU tool kit, which entails strategies in imposing localized lockdown.

Magalong led the local contact tracing and analytical tool training to 42 frontliners in the region, August 19 at Pearlmont Inn, here. (RTP/PIA10)
