No more LSI grand send-off to avoid social distancing issues, says PMS ASec Encabo

DIPOLOG CITY, Zamboanga del Norte, Aug 11 (PIA) – Locally stranded individuals (LSIs) will be sent to their respective provinces as per request made by their local government units.

Presidential Management Staff (PMS) Assistant Secretary Joseph Encabo said the send-off will resume as soon as the modified enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila will be lifted.

“These are pocket send-offs because we’ll have limited provinces to cater to,” he said.

He explained there will be no more grand send-off as they will be focusing on giving assistance to avoid the issue on social distancing.

“Our LSIs in Metro Manila are decreasing and handling them will be manageable,” ASec. Encabo opined.

He added, the “Hatid Tulong” initiatives might be on its last two months considering the decreasing number of LSIs.

According to ASec Encabo, they had coordinated with several LGUs in the past week to see if they are ready to accept their constituents.

Among the areas that responded are Biliran, Samar, Leyte, Romblon, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Palawan, and Bohol. Cebu had also signified that it’s ready.

“We are also writing to LGUs in North Luzon, because we still have lots of LSIs to cater to like in Cagayan, Batanes, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte,” he said.

ASec Encabo emphasized the number of LSIs to be sent-off will be based on how many the LGUs can accept as per coordination made with them. (RVC/EDT/PIA9-Zamboanga del Norte)
