CALOOCAN CITY, Sept. 6 (PIA) -- The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF)- Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) Team,  inducted the latest members of the northern metro city’s newly established “Barangay Disiplina Brigades” on Saturday.

Inducted as prime movers of the city’s Disiplina Brigades were five barangay chairpersons present on-site in City Hall and 183 other chairpersons and 40 city department heads who joined via video conference. Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Agriculture Secretary William Dar, and Mayor Oca Malapitan led the induction.

The Disiplina Brigades will lead the on-ground promotion of the spirit of “Bayanihan” and volunteerism and ensure that the communities implement minimum health standards themselves.

They will also drive the core message of “BIDA ang May Disiplina: Solusyon sa COVID 19,” which is individual responsibility and discipline will stop the spread of COVID-19.

The Barangay Disiplina Brigade, which is part of the BIDA national advocacy will also serve as the BIDA Ambassadors in each barangay to promote the spirit of volunteerism and practicing self-discipline to help safeguard the country from COVID-19.

A ceremonial turnover of personal protective equipment and hygiene kits was also conducted as part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s project called the “Mask para sa Masa.”

The project aims to provide 30 million locally-made washable face masks to poor families in high-risk areas and support MSMEs affected by the pandemic.

With a population of 1.6 million, Caloocan City is the third most populated city in the National Capital Region, next to Quezon City (2.9 million) and Manila (1.8 million). (PIA NCR)
