LAMUT, Ifugao, Sept. 14(PIA) - - Local government units will support the strengthening of provincial border quarantine checkpoints as a measure against the Coronavirus Disease- 2019.
In the meeting hosted by Lagawe Mayor Martin Habawel, Jr. and attended also by chiefs of the different police units on the province, the mayors agreed that provincial border checkpoints located in the municipalities of Alfonso Lista, Banaue, Lamut and Tinoc should be strengthened to abate the entry or spread of COVID-19 considering the rise of confirmed cases in nearby provinces.
They further agreed that each local government unit will provide financial assistance to augment the existing resources of the provincial quarantine checkpoints established earlier.
Banaue Mayor John Raymund Wesley Dulawan volunteered to handle the Mount Polis quarantine checkpoint located in their municipality.
Coordinations among the municipalities through the chief of police and rural health units should be strengthened for monitoring purposes of individuals entering the various towns especially those coming from high risk areas.
Ifugao Provincial Police Director Colonel David Mariano assured to establish a unified communication system for easy monitoring and response between the provincial and municipal quarantine checkpoints.
Hingyon Mayor Geraldo Luglug, president of the League of Mayor of the Philippines - Ifugao Chapter, appreciated the initiatives of his fellow mayors in safeguarding their province against the COVID-19 pandemic. (JDP/MBL-PIA CAR, Ifugao)
