CEBU CITY, Sept. 15 (PIA) -- The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is now accepting competitive grants application for the year 2021.

In a virtual interview, Veronica Amboni, Project Development Officer of NCCA, told the Philippine Information Agency 7 that the prime government arm for the development of culture and the arts is now open for applications amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis.

Amboni said in 2019, there were 18 grants implemented in Central Visayas, nine of which were in Cebu, three for Bohol, and six for Negros Oriental.

These projects amounted to P5,000,000 combined.

This year, NCCA is expecting culture, arts, and music development project applications from the region using the online platform under the new normal.

“We have a very good record of applications and grants for Central Visayas over the years. So even during this pandemic, we are still expecting proposals from this region,” she said.

For this batch of proposals, the commission is expecting proponents to go high on projects utilizing online platforms.

“This year, we have grantees who unfortunately backed out from the implementation of their projects due to restrictions brought by the pandemic. However, we see a surge of projects like webinars or online meetings and contetsts,” Amboni said.

Those who cancelled the implementation of their projects this year will not be sanctioned, she added.

Oden Candor, the Accreditation and Processing Officer of NCCA, also reminded proponents to make sure they are accredited with the commission before submitting their proposals.

Deadline for the submission of proposals is on Sept. 30, 2020.

Candor also assured those interested but have yet to be accredited with NCCA that they can still process their accreditation, given they comply with all the reportorial requirements.

Interested groups or individuals may submit their applications to ppfpd@ncca.gov.ph or send the hard copy via private courier to the Policy/Plan Formulation and Programming Division of NCCA, Room 5-C, Fifth Floor, NCCA Building, 633 Gen. Luna Street, Intramuros, Manila.

Proponents are encouraged to visit the NCCA website at https://ncca.gov.ph/about-ncca-3/grants-program/ to access the documents needed for proposal submission and for more information. (jkm/PIA7)
