PNP chief leads Barangay COVID Defense, PNP Food Bank launch

CALOOCAN CITY, Sept. 12 (PIA) -- Philippine National Police Chief, Police General Camilo Pancratius P Cascolan led police officials in the ceremonial launching of Barangay COVID Defense (BaCoD) and the PNP Food Bank, benchmark projects under his leadership that primarily focus on the welfare of the community.

The PNP unveiled these two community-engaging projects as part of PNP Retooled Community Support Program and the PNP Sustainable Development Program.

“For years, the PNP has always recognized the participation of the community in fulfilling its duties at the frontlines. Sa pamamagitan ng BaCoD ay mas mapapalawak nito ang kooperasyon ng ating mga kababayan sa komunidad upang labanan ang COVID gayundin ang krimen at droga,” PGen Cascolan explained.

Under the BaCoD Program, the PNP will cater community clustering system as a focused initiative to help the national government and agencies on implementing measures and protocols in barangay-level.

Cascolan emphasized that five to six barangays will be grouped into one cluster under the PNP Patrulya ng Bayan – Barangay Enforcement Teams (PnT-BET) that will perform specific functions such as assistance in preventing violation in minimum health standard protocols; provide security and patrol operations; encourage backyard farming; security visibility in coordination with barangay councils; assistance in contact-tracing efforts; promote livelihood programs like urban gardening, and skills development.

Meanwhile, the PNP Chief also revealed the first-ever PNP Food Bank that will serve as a reservoir of food donations and other basic needs from various donators and stakeholders.

According to Cascolan, the Food Bank will be logistics system to manage donations to be distributed to the communities and families who are experiencing the unfortunate impact of the pandemic. (PNP PIO/PIA-NCR)
