KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, Sept. 13 (PIA) – In accordance with the efforts of the national government for line agencies to collaborate in addressing the needs of underserved communities, the Deparment of Agriculture (DA) 12 has recently handed over to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) 12 P600,000 worth of farm equipment and other support materials.
During the inauguration of the TESDA 12 regional office building at the SOCCKSARGEN Prime Regional Center at Carpenter Hill on August 28, DA 12 Regional Executive Director Arlan Mangelen turned over to TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapeña a rice thresher, a transplanter and other materials and equipment for agricultural production.
These machines and equipment will be used by the different TESDA Provincial Training Centers offering different agriculture-related programs.
In response to the DA support, TESDA 12 Secretary Lapeña assures that there will be enough programs for agriculture in the region, despite the pandemic.
“We will strengthen the agriculture programs, and some of the agriculture programs have already started,” Secretary Lapeña said.
Inter-Agency Task Force COVID-19 has allowed the start of TESDA’s Agri programs with the observation of health protocols for the beneficiaries and instructors.
Among the most recent agriculture-based training activities that TESDA 12 has carried out are agriculture technology training for indigenous people community leaders in Magpet, Cotabato Province; pest management training and organic agriculture for IP leaders, CAFGU and AFP personnel; and vegetable pest management and organici agriculture production for workers of Tampakan Survival Garden and farmers of neighboring villages, mostly populated by Blaan tribe.
TESDA has also conducted organic swine and chicken production trainings for Tboli IPs of Sitio Blit, one of the most remote places in Ned, Lake Sebu in South Cotabato. (KMTabingo-TESDA XII/DED-PIA XII)
