ILOILO CITY, Oct. 4 (PIA) - - As this school year 2020-2021 opening coincided with the World Teachers’ Day celebration on Monday, October 5, 2020, the Department of Education (DepEd) in Western Visayas acknowledged and recognized the efforts and profound sacrifices of teachers amid changes in the country’s learning environment brought about by the coronavirus disease 2019.
“We are giving them the grandest salute and the loudest clap, they have been working hard since from the start, even when they do not return to school, but they have been working on their modules, activity sheets and a lot of other work,” said Dr. Lea Belleza, Education Program Supervisor and Information Officer of DepEd-Western Visayas.
She added that “we always admire, acknowledge and recognize their efforts – their sweat and tears and sacrifices, all for their love, care and concern for our learners.”
Belleza said the critical role of teachers to make sure that the delivery of learning be continued during this COVID-19 pandemic is apparent and that the Department also ensures that they are recognized and provided benefit during this challenging situation.
Each public school teacher will receive P1,000 for their World Teachers’ Day Incentive Benefit.
To further highlight the National Teachers’ Month celebration in the country from September 5 to October 5 and the World Teachers' Day, a virtual celebration through a whole day program will be conducted on October 10 spearheaded by the DepEd Central Office.
Meanwhile, Belleza said “all systems go” for DepEd 6 for school year 2020-2021.
“We are ready for the opening of classes on Monday, October 5,” she said, as DepEd 6 expects to welcome some 1,754,067 learners from Kindergarten to Senior High School.
She added that trainings and orientations were already conducted for teachers and parents, respectively, to ensure they are equipped and informed about the changes in the educational set-up in the new normal due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Majority of the learners in Western Visayas have preferred the modular learning system.
Belleza assured that safety and health protocols are in placed for the distribution and collection of the Self-Learning Modules. (JBG/laf/PIA – Iloilo)
