NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Oct. 15 (PIA)--Department of Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Singh-Vergeire said she will endorse to the appropriate DOH unit the request of Victorias City mayor Francis Frederick Palanca for additional personal protective equipment (PPE) for the city.
In an interview over Laging Handa Network Briefing hosted by Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar, Palanca said that as president of the Association of Chief Executives he observed that supply of PPEs is fast declining as he expressed concern over the start of the milling season where more people usually go around other than tourism.
The situation requires preparation for the possibility of increased virus transmission, hence, the need for more PPEs.
Vergeire, who is also one of the guests in the program, said she will endorse the concern of the mayor to DOH for proper action.
Palanca further sought the DOH official’s assistance on the possibility of providing Local Chief Executives a "common link" to access list of COVID-19 positive cases for proper action of Local Chief Executives.
He said Bacolod City, a COVID-19 transmission flashpoint, is just 34 kilometers away from Victorias City, and being the economic center of province, it hosts numerous workers who also return to their homes outside Bacolod.
Palanca expressed concern that these people may carry COVID-19 back to their homes as coordination between Bacolod City and Victorias on COVID-19 is not yet in place.
Vergeire referred the mayor to the LGU’s Epidemeological Surveillance Unit that has access to the data needed regarding the virus.
“Every Epidemiology Surveillance Unit of an LGU has access to COVID-19 list of patients because it is they who encode it, your City Health Officer and Epidemiology Surveillance Unit has access to the list of cases,” she said.
In some instances, the laboratory should inform the LGU regarding the patient’s status.
“If, for example, a person goes back to Victorias City but was diagnosed (of COVID-19) in Bacolod City, the laboratory should provide information to the specific LGU where the person belongs,” she added. (JSC/Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
