PASIG CITY, Oct. 23 (PIA) -- The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 or MRT-3 will temporary suspend train operations starting October 31 to November 2, 2020 to give way for maintenance works.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that the temporary shutdown on said dates will be implemented to give way to bushing replacement at the depot and turnout activity at the Taft Avenue station of Sumitomo-MHI-TESP.
According to the DOTr, part of the bushing replacement of the 34.5-kilovolt alternating current (kV AC) switch gear is the adjustment of the bus tie that provides power supply to the depot from its Meralco power source in Balintawak and Diliman, and the repair of a panel with 12 bushing unit.
On the other hand, the ongoing adjustment and replacement of turnouts at Taft Avenue station will also continue.
Also, part of this turnout activity is the renovation of the 2A and 2B turnout sections on Taft Avenue. Recently, some turnout sections were adjusted with a completion rate of 91 percent, and welding works continues.
According to DOTr, turnouts are used to move a train from one track to another.
Earlier this month, the MRT-3 has increased its train speed to 40kph from 30kph. It targets to climb further to 50kph in November and 60kph in December, once the turnouts are adjusted.
The activities are part of the massive rehabilitation and maintenance conducted throughout the MRT-3 line of Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries from Japan. (PIA-NCR)
