CALOOCAN CITY, Oct. 18 (PIA) -- The Quezon City government is set to unveil on Monday its first dialysis center dedicated solely for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients at the Quezon City General Hospital and Medical Center (QCGHMC).
The center is housed at the ground floor of the QCGHMC Extension Facility where four machines are available for COVID-19 patients who need dialysis.
It was only last Friday that the dialysis center obtained its accreditation from the Department of Health (DOH).
"Ngayong mayroon na tayong dialysis center na solely for our COVID-19 patients, mas magiging madali na ang pagbibigay serbisyo sa kanila," Mayor Joy Belmonte said.
The mayor said the city government will shoulder the dialysis fee of all COVID-19 positive patients who are residents of Quezon City.
Belmonte said dialysis patients with positive RT-PCR result will be automatically admitted to the COVID-19 dialysis center ward.
According to QCGHMC director Dr. Josephine Sabando, the dialysis center can accommodate up to 12 patients per day.
Sabando said the hospital has placed various measures to ensure the safety of patients and the frontliners who will attend to their needs.
"We know that COVID-19 is highly contagious so we included in our protocol that all consumables including tubings and dialyzer should be on a "one time use" only," Sabando emphasized.
Lavatories are also placed in strategic locations for the handwashing of patients and healthcare workers.
On-duty doctors and nurses are also required to wear Level 4 personal protective equipment (hazmat suit) at all times to avoid infection.
High-efficiency particulate air filters have also been installed to ensure that the air circulating in the area is clean.
"We see to it that aside from our patients, our healthcare workers are also being taken cared of," Sabando added. ( PAISD QC/PIA-NCR)
