BACOLOD CITY, Nov. 12 (PIA) –- The Bacolod City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) plans to implement 1:1 patient-to-room accommodation in its quarantine facilities to further contain the spread of the virus.
The move is in the light of continued decreasing cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) here.
Executive director and deputy for administration and operations of the EOC-TF and City Administrator Em Ang said the low utilization rate of isolation facilities would allow the City Government to save resources and allow the deployment of healthcare workers to highly utilized isolation facilities to aid in the shifting rotation of the staff.
As of November 11, data released by the Bacolod EOC showed that from August to September there is 116 percent increase in COVID-19 cases while for September to October, there is 71 percent decrease of cases and as of November 11, there is zero growth and zero decrease basing on the projected data from October.
Councilor Renecito Novero, who chairs the Quarantine Centers Action Team, said Bacolod now has a bigger number of facilities reserved, unlike two months ago that we were worried that we might not have enough rooms due to the overwhelming number of people who need to be isolated.
“Let’s be grateful that up to date, the number of people who need isolation keeps reducing,” Novero added.
Ang said the underutilization may result in the eventual reduction of the isolation facilities, but she added that the EOC-TF will make sure that all COVID-19 asymptomatic and mild patients would still be accommodated.
“For now it is too early to tell since we're still in the cusp of transition from October to November,” she said.
During the first week of November, Bacolod EOC recorded 28 out of the city’s 61 barangays have been COVID-free for 14 days which translates to almost 46 percent of the total barangays are free from transmission for two weeks.
According to Ang, the most recent cases are from close contacts where she reminded the public that EOC noted that there is a pattern for infection during gatherings or celebrations like birthdays as common venue for spreading the virus.
“We have to be vigilant and careful so we can maintain and sustain the lowering of cases. We must never be complacent,” she stressed. *(LTP/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
