MARAWI CITY, Nov. 28 (PIA) -- Raheema Peace Weavers Cooperative, a beneficiary of Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) Bangon Marawi Shared Service Facilities (SSF) Project, started training 24 displaced women in Bahay Pag-asa Phase 2, Mipaga Transitory Shelter Site.
Raheema provided skills training on beadworks, sewing and mamandiang making using the SSF from DTI.
Baicon Cayongcat-Nuska, president of Raheema said that the capacity training is “part of the efforts of Save the Children Philippines and Raheemah in establishing the supply chain for the Raheemah Economic Hub.”
Ramalan Junaifah Amer, one of the trainees, shared that despite being hurt in sewing sequins, she still enjoys the learning experience.
“Sobrang saya ko kasi tuwing nasasaktan ako sa karayom, iniisip ko na kaya ko kasi kapag nakauwi na ako sa ground zero, may maipagmamalaki ako sa mga anak ko na may natutunan ako sa Raheema” said Amer.
[I am very happy because whenever I get hurt from the needle, I just think that I can do it because when I finally go home at ground zero, I have something to be proud of with my children that I learned something from Raheemah.]
Amer also conveyed her appreciation to the cooperative for the livelihood opportunity. She also encouraged her fellow trainees to be patient in learning.
“Kailangan natin maging matiyaga, magsipag para makaraos, matutunan ang ating ginagawa,” she added.
[We need to have patience, hard work to survive, to learn from what we are doing.]

“Gusto namin ng magkaroon ng sariling livelihood, para kung matapos kami, maibenta namin at makatulong sa amin,” she said.
[I wanted to have my own source of livelihood so that when we complete it, we can sell it and it will help us.]
Meanwhile, Task Force Bangon Marawi Chairperson ang newly confirmed Secretary of Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, Sec. Eduardo del Rosario, shared the progress of the reconstruction works inside the city’s most affected area.
He also explained that this kind of livelihood interventions are just part of the assistance given to them while the reconstruction is ongoing.
“Ito ay temporary interventions, habang hindi pa kayo nakakabalik ay meron kayong kabuhayan o assistance not only from the government but also from non government organizations,” he said.
Through the Restoring Livelihoods and Learning in Marawi Project funded by Japan Government through Asian Development Bank, the skills of the trainees will be assessed and will be developed.
To date, 186 beneficiaries have been reached by Save the Children through its livelihood program. (LELA/ PIA ICIC)
