BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya, Nov. 8 (PIA) - Officials of the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has urged jeepney operators in the province to support and comply with the PUV Modernization Program.

Renwick Rutaquio, LTFRB Central Office executive director said their agency is ready to facilitate the transformation of local transport groups in the province into a cooperative to enable them to acquire Modern Public Utility Vehicles (MPUVs).

"This is one of the flagship programs of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte which envisions a restructured, modern, well-managed and environmental friendly transportation. We are encouraging everyone to support this program," he said.

Rutaquio was in this town recently to attend the opening and inauguration this town's Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) for the implementation of the public utility vehicle modernization (PUV) program.

He said that though the COVID-19 Pandemic has adversely affected the implementation of the program which was started in 2017.

Rutaquio said the program slowed down due to the dependency of jeepney operators to loans through the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) and the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP).

He however said that they will tapped jeepney operators to a sub-contracting scheme to help them in coping up with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We have also provided subsidies to jeepney operators who were severely affected by the pandemic through the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)," Rutaquo added.

During the ITH program, several PUVs were also launched to address the need for a modernized transportation in the province. The PUVs will ply the Solano-Kasibu and Solano-Bayombong routes.(MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
