Marawi leaders satisfied over rehab, cites TFBM chief's tireless commitment

MARAWI CITY, Nov. 29 – Leaders in Marawi City have expressed satisfaction over the ongoing massive rehabilitation of the war-torn city as they cited the "selflessness" of Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) Chairperson Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario in spearheading the government-led efforts.

At a “Kandori” or thanksgiving event hosted by the Marawi local government unit on Thursday afternoon, Marawi Sultanate League Chairperson Sultan Nasser Disomangcop Sampaco pledged the sultanate’s full backing to Secretary Del Rosario as he congratulated the housing czar for recently being confirmed by the powerful Commission on Appointments as the first-ever head of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development.

“The Marawi Sultanate League is always on your side, with full trust and confidence, exerting full support in your programs and activities in the rehabilitation of Marawi,” Sultan Nasser said, vowing that the Sultanate League will continue coordinating with the government in restoring Marawi back to its former glory.

The Islamic traditional leader likewise praised the TFBM chief for staying focused on his advocacy in rebuilding Marawi despite criticism from his detractors. Due to Secretary Del Rosario’s hard work and commitment, all major government projects are now on full blast and slated for completion by December 2021, according to Sultan Nasser.

“It’s an indication that Marawi is approaching a new era in our history as a world-class city, with all its grandeur, modernity and colorful unique culture,” he said, noting that Secretary Del Rosario is now “part of the Maranao history.”

Sultan Nasser also expressed gratitude to the TFBM chairman for the construction of a torogan, or an ancestral house for traditional leaders, in Barangay Sagonsongan, as well as for pushing for the reconstruction of the Dansalan Bato Ali Mosque.

Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra also extended his congratulations to Secretary Del Rosario for his confirmation, stressing that the DHSUD is in good hands especially now that the person in charge had proven his capacity to lead while showing compassion in delivering public service.

Mayor Gandamra recalled when Secretary Del Rosario first came to Marawi following the siege and despite having little knowledge of the Maranao culture, he had shown willingness in helping the people of Marawi.

Mayor Gandamra likewise stated that the TFBM chief is known for his selflessness, citing his gesture in pushing for a pilgrimage program for the Maranaos even though it landed him in hot water with the Commission on Audit.

The city chief pledged the Marawi people’s full support, especially in Secretary Del Rosario’s new endeavor as DHSUD head. “While this is a new challenge that you’ll be facing sir, always remember that despite the individuals pulling you down, we, the people of Marawi City, will always have your back,” Mayor Gandamra said.

“We’re here at the back to push you whenever you feel like falling, and to assist you in any way we can in order to make sure that you will yet again become successful in this new endeavor that your are going to face,” noted the mayor, who added that Secretary Del Rosario will always be a friend and a brother to him.
