CALOOCAN CITY, Nov. 5 (PIA) --Restricted movement during the community quarantine resulted to noticeable fluctuation of crime trends in September and October during the transition to General Community Quarantine and Modified General Community Quarantine.
In a news conference marking his 60 days in office as Chief PNP, Police General Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan said the decline in crime trend was more noticeable among the 8-Focus Crimes of murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, carnapping of motor vehicles, carnapping of motorcycles and rape, that comprise roughly 24% of the total crime volume over a 60-day period since September.
The 9-month crime trend recorded from January to September further dipped sharply towards the end of October with more notable decrease in Peace and Order Index Crimes, he said.
Cascolan said the PNP intensified its campaign on anti-criminality, anti- illegal drugs and address the increasing incidents of motorcycle riding suspects.
“We continue to enhance our operations on anti-illegal drugs,” he said.
The 234,036 operations conducted from July 2016 resulted to the arrest of 357,069 suspects;7,987 killed; and surrender of 1,290,768.
He cited a police anti-illegal drugs operation on October 25, 2020, where operatives confiscated 8.5 kilos of shabu during the two buy-bust operations in Bacoor, Cavite.
“In close coordination with PDEA, the Prosecution and the Courts, the confiscated illegal drugs with value amounting to 19.6 million Pesos have been disposed of properly through incineration,” he said.
“On our anti-terrorism campaign, the Intelligence Group (IG) arrested very recently 5 hardcore terrorists,” he added. (PNP-PIO/PIA-NCR)
