KALIBO, Aklan, Dec. 27 (PIA) – Six municipalities in the province of Aklan have temporarily suspended the acceptance of locally stranded individuals (LSIs).
For at least 15 days, the towns of Kalibo, Numancia, Buruanga, Malay, Altavas and Batan will not be issuing notice of acceptance for LSIs.
The first to announce the implementation of moratorium on LSIs return were the local government units of Malay and Buruanga that started on December 5 and will end on January 4 and 2, respectively.
On December 15, 2020, the town of Numancia also halted the arrival of LSIs until January 14 of next year.
For 20 days, LGU-Altavas has suspended receiving of stranded Aklanons from other places in the country, starting December 16, 2020 to January 4, 2021.
Meanwhile, the capital town of Kalibo, pursuant to executive Order No. 090 series of 2020, has suspended acceptance of LSIs, effective December 20, 2020 to January 3, 2021.
The towns of Altavas and Batan also temporarily banned LSIs on December 16, 2020 until January 4 , 2021 and December 21, 2020 to January 10, 2021, respectively.
The said LGUs cited maximum capacity of Municipal Ligtas Covid Centers and Barangay Isolation Units as the main reason for the moratorium on the acceptance of returning Aklanons.
Also, the suspension would allow frontliners and health workers to recover from the continuous operations against the coronavirus disease.
As of December 23, 2020, the province of Aklan has 395 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); of which 37 are active cases and 345 recoveries. The province has recorded 13 deaths due to the said disease. (LTP/SQP-PIA Aklan)
