CALOOCAN CITY, Dec. 21 (PIA) -- Barangay Health Response Teams (BHERT) have received additional cash assistance amounting to P1.4 million courtesy of the City Government of Navotas.

Some 208 barangay health workers, who have rendered services for at least three months, have received P5,000 each by virtue of City Ordinance No. 2020-40 approved by Mayor Toby Tiangco recently.

"Since day one of the pandemic, our barangay health workers have been at the frontlines, risking their life to keep us healthy and safe. They have been invaluable in our fight against COVID-19," Mayor Toby noted.

"This cash assistance, though meager compared to their sacrifices, is our way of recognizing and rewarding their steadfast service. We also hope it will make their Christmas merrier," he added.

Earlier, Navotas also started the distribution of Christmas hams to residents to bring holiday cheers to them.

Out of 89,650 target family-beneficiaries, 22,738 have received their "Pamaskong Handog" from the city government as of Dec. 18.

The city also ensured that health and safety protocols are in place to keep COVID-19 cases at bay, amid all the gift giving. (PIA NCR)
