QUEZON CITY, Dec. 17 (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) has lifted the import ban on all poultry products from Brazil.
This, after Agriculture Secretary William Dar issued a memorandum on the matter.
The DA earlier asked Brazil to provide a list of companies importing products in their country that have new reported cases of COVID-19.
It also requested documents related to COVID-19 prevention and control procedures among Brazilian factory workers in chicken processing facilities.
The import ban was issued last August after some frozen chicken products from Brazil tested positive for COVID-19. Meat traders raised concern on the ban amid challenges in the supply of other food products such as pork.
The country has imported 55,395,826 kilograms of chicken from Brazil from January to July 2020, according to the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).
To recall, the DA-BAI imposed a temporary ban on Brazilian poultry products after China reported that it found traces of the COVID-19 in chicken products from said South American country.
The DA-BAI cited that the rising number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Brazil that included workers at meat processing facilities. (PIA NCR)
