Former rebels receive livelihood grants from DILG, DSWD

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Dec. 17 (PIA) - - Four former rebels have received livelihood grants from the government as part of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP) through the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

Two of them received P65, 000 each as livelihood grants from the Department of the Interior and Local Government while the other two received P20, 000 each from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

"Ka Red", a beneficiary, expressed her gratitude to the government for giving them the opportunity to live peacefully and to improve their living status.

"We are very thankful to these assistance because in reality, we, the former rebels, do not have any to start again. That is why we are thankful to the different government agencies that are giving us livelihood assistance," Ka Red said.

She said they will use the cash assistance to buy farm animals that they can use in venturing into farming and to start simple livelihood activities to improve their lives.

Regional Director Jonathan Paul Leusen of DILG encourage further other government agencies to strengthen further development programs that are contributory to the attainment of the government's goal to end rebellion and terrorism.

He also encouraged rebels to lay their arms down, surrender and embrace a peaceful and productive lives with the government. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
