CALOOCAN CITY, Dec. 20 (PIA) -- The National Capital Region Police Office's (NCRPO) has received nine evidence storage vaults from the Philippine National Police (PNP) that will help it secure sensitive evidence and records.

PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas personally led the recent turnover of the evidence storage vaults at the NCRPO headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

The vaults, Sinas said, will be used to preserve and secure physical evidence especially illegal drugs and firearms gathered during police operations and criminal investigations.

Each door of the evidence storage vaults has three padlock hasps, an imported dial combination lock, six adjustable shelves with stiffeners for extra support, and a storage handle.

Each evidence storage vault has a height of 72 inches, a width of 72 inches, and a depth of 24 inches.

Currently, stations of the Northern Police District and Quezon City Police District are equipped with similar vaults.

The acquisition of evidence storage vaults was part of Sinas' plans when he was still chief of the PNP Crime Laboratory.

For his part, Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., acting NCRPO director, thanked Sinas and assured him that the equipment will be used to preserve, secure, and store physical evidence and other pertinent documents gathered during criminal investigations and police operations.

"It is a fact that for a case to prosecute and suspects are convicted, every piece of evidence needs to be properly collected and preserved so that it may one day be acceptable in court. Importante ito (This is important) especially on the illegal drugs cases, na nagiging reason ng nawawala ang ebidensya o naire-recycle. Gayundin sa mga firearms at iba pang paraphernalia na nakukuha kung kaya nadi-dismiss ang mga kaso," Danao said.
