PIATF Chief to Misamisnon: Save some for your health

MISAMIS ORIENTAL, Dec. 2 (PIA) – “Save some for your health. The vaccines will be coming out ... and I am looking forward that we might be buying for ourselves. We must not depend on the government that it will  be given for free. That is why I said save some for our health.”

This was the statement of the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force Chief of Misamis Oriental, Dr. Jerie P. Calingasan, during the virtual flag-raising ceremony held Monday, Dec. 1, at the Provincial Capitol here.

As reports of COVID-19 vaccines are circulating, Calingasan said that the quality, cost, value and efficacy of the vaccine must be considered.

“The ultimate hope for this pandemic now is the discovery of this vaccine.  But, when given to us, human beings, is it safe and effective? For me, it is not only the cost and quality [of the vaccine], but it's effectiveness and safety," Calingasan said, explaining the three patterns in the clinical trials of the vaccine.

“During phase one, the vaccine is tested in a small number of people to check if it is safe. Phase two tests the safety on more people to check whether if it is effective and safe.  Phase three is a big trial, with about 30,000 people are placed in trials,” he explained.

Dr. Calingasan announced that the province of Misamis Oriental has recorded 985 cases and that ten of the municipality of the province had recorded zero COVID-19 cases. He also commended Tagoloan town for only having one case left in their municipal isolation unit. Also, the COVID-19 case of the province had decreased from 392 in October to 192 cases in November.
