Southern Tagalog, Bicol top NPAs arrested in Atimonan, Quezon

CAMP CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal, Dec 29 (PIA) – As the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) supposedly celebrating their anniversary, two of their top NPA members were apprehended after a joint AFP-PNP operations served warrants of arrest in Atimonan, Quezon on December 26.

The government troops identified the NPA terrorists as Ruel Custodio alias Baste, head of Finance Staff of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee who had a warrant for kidnapping and illegal possession of explosives and Ruben Estocado alias Oyo, a political instructor of Bicol Regional Party Committee. The duo were arrested in the house of  Rhodora “Dhoray” Blas Tan, a Board Member from the 4th District of Quezon Province.

The soldiers and police seized from the terrorists’ possession two Cal. 45 pistols with magazines and ammunition, two hand grenades, several electronic devices, and subversive documents that could lead the authorities in uncovering their extortion activities.

MGen Greg T Almerol, Commander of 2ID, said that “this incident shows the drive of our soldiers and police in uniting to end insurgency in our country.”

“Instead of celebrating their anniversary, the few remaining NPA terrorists remain in hiding. Especially in the last few months where most of their cadres were either killed in combat, apprehended or have surrendered to avail of the government’s livelihood programs.” (PIA-4A/PA 2ID DPAO)
