BION strengthens communication between gov’t, grassroots

KUMALARANG, Zamboanga del Sur, 31 January, 2021 (PIA) - The Kumalarang local government has fully implemented the Memorandum Circular of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG-9) and executive order issued by Governor Victor Yu mandating local chief executives to designate Barangay Information Officers (BIOs) in their respective provinces, towns / cities and barangays.

This disclosed acting Mayor Raniel Graciano Dormitorio to 18 barangay officials during the 12th municipal launch of the Barangay Information Officers ’Network (BION) in the province on  January 26 at the Birds of Paradise Resort in the town.

Dormitorio said the LGU actively supports the directives because for him, BION establishment will strengthe the the communication network between the government and the grassroots.

"We designated a BIO and established the BION here, for us to improve the provision of accurate and true information to our people," Dormitorio announced.

Dormitorio places great importance on disseminating accurate and truthful information so that government programs and projects are accessible to the people as well as to foster good relations within the family and society.

The mayor observed that a lot of misinformation is spread on social media especially on facebook, which hurts a person’s feelings.

"Almost all the information published in social media is misleading that causes pain in the human heart. But through BION organized by PIA and  the provincial government, I believe it is an effective strategy to combat fake news in social media  to let true and accurate information prevail and be known to people, ”Dormitorio added.

During the event, barangay officials vowed to faithfully carry out their government-mandated duties and also signed a pledge of commitment as a demonstration of their sinccerity to help the government through iactivie participation in nformation and advocacy campaigns.
