CALOOCAN CITY, Jan. 6 (PIA) -- The apparent lack of data about the COVID-19 vaccines is hampering the willingness of Metro Manila residents to have themselves inoculated.
“It could mean na a lot of people are waiting for more information about vaccines, ‘yung efficacy, possible side effects,” Professor Guido David of the OCTA Research Group explained their recent survey conducted in the National Capital Region (NCR).
OCTA Research's survey showed that only 25 percent, or one out of four respondents, in Metro Manila are ready to be vaccinated against COVID-19, while 28 percent think otherwise.
The poll also discovered that 47 percent of the respondents are not yet sure if they will have themselves vaccinated.
The survey was conducted among 600 respondents in NCR, which is considered as an epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, from December 9 to 13, 2020.
David said he believes that there should be campaigns to “put out the best information out there” to gain public trust.
The Department of Health (DOH) earlier said it will boost vaccine confidence among Filipinos.
Another survey is being eyed to determine if there is a difference in the vaccine confidence of Filipinos.
Meanwhile, the DOH is urging local governments in the NCR to coordinate with them for the acquisition of vaccines since they “can pool the funds and the national government can procure” and that they “can have an effective distribution systems.” It clarified that only the national government can buy COVID-19 vaccines with emergency use authorization.
