Security forces ready for possible CPP-NPA terrorist attacks

PASIG CITY, Jan. 5 (PIA) -- Government security forces are ready for any possible attack by members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Debold Sinas said he directed the police force to take precaution and prepare for any possible CPP-NPA activity.

Sinas also said he met with the legal service of the PNP to look into the possible violation of Sison in his declaration against the authorities.

He said the PNP would be filing a complaint against Sison, who is in self-exile in the Netherlands.

“Tinitingnan namin kung ano ang effect noon, kung iyon bang statement niya can be used against him for any criminal case. I have already talked to some of our legal officers kung ‘yun bang mga pronouncements niya ay merong pwede i-file sa kanya for threat whatsoever,” Sinas said in a press briefing.

In an earlier tweet by CPP Information Officer Marco Valbuena, he said CPP Chairperson Jose Maria Sison has a standing order for the NPA to form a partisan team called "Special Partisan Units" to retaliate against the alleged "crime committed by the authorities against the people."

This statement has prompted the PNP to closely monitor the terroristic activities by the rebels.

The Department of National Defense (DND), for its part, challenged Sison on his terroristic threats against the government.

DND Secretary Delfin Lorenzana warned that the government is more prepared to fight violence in the country with the strengthened capability of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Lorenzana also said many members of the NPA have returned to the folds of the law.

Based on a report by the PNP, at least 3,155 members of the local terrorist group have surrendered, 155 have been killed in operations, and 433 have been arrested. (PIA NCR)
