Ilocos Sur logs 4th COVID-19 death

ILOCOS SUR, Feb. 24 (PIA) – The province of Ilocos Sur recorded its fourth death from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) Monday night.

 

In a statement, Governor Ryan Luis Singson said that patient IS-C341 was a 60-year-old male from Barangay Pudoc West in Tagudin town.

 

The patient is the third recorded COVID-19 death in the said town.

 

On February 8, the patient sought consultation at a private clinic where diagnostic procedures were done.

 

He was then admitted at the Ilocos Sur District Hospital-Tagudin, due to incidental detection of cough and the result of the radiologist test, where he stayed in a private room soon after thoracentesis was completed.

 

Investigation extracted no history of travel nor exposure to a known confirmed case where his initial Antigen test result was negative to SARS-Cov-2.

 

On February 17, he manifested difficulty of breathing which prompted immediate intubation and subsequent transfer to Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City, La Union.

 

He was swabbed upon admission and his RT-PCR rendered a positive result.

 

The patient expired at 9:45 in the morning of February 23 with final diagnosis of Septic shock secondary to Pneumonia, severe; COVID-19 confirmed-critical case; Chronic Kidney Disease, Stage V; Diabetes Mellitus Type 2; and Spontaneous Pneumothorax.

 

“We are deeply sorrowed and we empathize with the family of our deceased provincemate,” said Governor Singson.

 

He said, “Despite stringent protocols and steadfast implementation of mitigation measures, COVID-19 remains difficult to abate.”

 

“As we include IS-C341 and his family in our prayers, I enjoin everyone to stay vigilant in protecting ourselves from COVID-19 for sooner, together we heal as one,” he concluded.

 

Ilocos Sur recorded its third mortality on December 12, 2020.

 

He was IS-C153, a 45-year-old male from Barangay Maynganay Sur, Sta. Maria, who died of acute respiratory failure secondary to asphyxia secondary to achalasia; COVID-19, severe community acquired pneumonia.

 

As of February 23 at 4:00PM, Ilocos Sur has a total of 348 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 34 of twhich are active confirmed cases, 311 are recoveries, and three are mortalities. (JCR/JMCQ, PIA Ilocos Sur)
