Limited face-to-face classes approved for medical, health programs

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Feb. 5(PIA) - - The Commission on Higher Education announced the offering of limited face-to-face classes on medical and allied health programs in higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Cordillera region.

This following President Rodrigo Duterte’s approval of the resumption of face-to-face classes in said programs in areas under general and modified general community quarantine. The national government saw the need of producing more health workers who play a vital role during the COVID-19 pandemic.

CHED-CAR Director Danilo Bose, in an emergency meeting of the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID 19, announced the resumption of limited face-to-face classes on five medical and allied health programs.

HEIs in the region cover five programs namely  Medicine, Physical Therapy, Nursing, Medical Technology, and Midwifery.

Bose explained that it is not automatic for institutions offering such programs to resume face to face learning. They need to apply and be assessed based on the checklist CHED will provide for compliance.

If qualified based on the assessment of members of the IATF such as CHED and the Department of Health, then they can resume limited face-to-face classes, said Bose.

“For the other programs, we still have to wait.  Priority are the medical and allied health programs as we all know these are the programs we really need during these times,” he said.

As can be recalled, face-to-face classes were suspended since last year to ensure the safety and well-being of students amidst the COVID pandemic.
