MRT-3 continues normal operations today amid first day of weeklong ECQ

PASIG CITY, March 29 (PIA) -- The regular operation of the Metro Rail Transit or MRT-3 continues today, March 29, despite the implementation of a weeklong Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) throughout Metro Manila, as well as in Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal.

In a Facebook port, the Department of Transportation said trains passenger capacity also remain at 30 percent, equivalent to 124 passengers per train car or 372 passengers per train set.

"Today is the last day before MRT-3's scheduled Holy Week maintenance shutdown, lasting from 30 March to 4 April 2021," the DOTr said.

"Maintenance activities on the line include replacing railway turnouts or switches, installation of new point machines, replacement of ACU Filters, installation of CCTVs, replacement of insulation sleeves of Overhead Catenary System (OCS), painting OCS corroded equipment, and Other. This is by the maintenance provider of MRT-3 Sumitomo-MHI-TESP," it added.

Beginning Holy Tuesday, March 30, however, MRT-3 train operation will be temporarily suspended unti Easter Sunday, April 4 to give way for its annual comprehensive maintenance and chack-up.

Normal operations will resume on Monday, April 5.

Meanwhile, the DOTr said following the "7 Commandments" while onboard are still strictly implemented within MRT-3 trains.

According to the recommendation of health experts, the agency said:

1) Always wear face mask and face shield;

2) No talking and talking on the phone;

3) No eating;

4) Always maintain good and adequate ventilation in trains;

5) Always do disinfection;

6) No Passengers with COVID-19 symptoms rode trains; and 7) Always follow the rules of appropriate physical distancing.

In order to assist Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APORs) who are allowed to travel this ECQ amid the temporary MRT-3 shutdown, the DOTr said its Road Sector will implement an EDSA Bus Carousel Augmentation program during the Holy Week. (PIA NCR)
