CALOOCAN CITY, April 5 (PIA) -- At least 231 more police officers recovered from COVID-19 after getting infected with the highly contagious disease, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported today.

According to PNP Deputy Chief for Administration, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, the number of police personnel beating COVID-19 brought the police force's total recovery to 13,391 individuals.

Eleazar, however, did not mention if there were recurring infections, especially those that contracted the new strain of the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, at least 173 new infections were also reported bringing the total active case count to 2,632.

So far, the PNP has recorded a total of 16,063 COVID-19 cases with 40 fatalities.

Of the 173 COVID-19 infections as of Sunday, April 4, 168 were tagged as new infections while five were classified as reinfections.

Eleazar said 68 of the PNP's active COVID-19 cases are being treated in hospitals while 2,564 are being cared for in isolation centers.

The PNP has been in the frontlines in the country's bid to curb COVID-19 trajectory since recording the first local transmission in March of last year. (PIA NCR)
