La Trinidad joins 500th anniversary of Lapulapu’s victory in Mactan

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, April 30(PIA) -- The municipality of La Trinidad participated in the simultaneous flag raising ceremony on Tuesday( April 27) to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Lapulapu’s Victory in Mactan  and other related events, collectively known as the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines.

LGU officials and employees together with the uniformed personnel of the municipality participated in the flag raising ceremony strictly observing the minimum public health standards and other health and safety protocols.

Mayor Romeo Salda, in his message, honored the heroism of all the frontliners who are fighting and conquering the battle against the COVID-19 just like what Lapulapu who fought the Spaniards 500 years ago.
 
“Today, we wish to honor the heroism of all our frontliners who embody Lapulapu's warrior spirit in our collective fight against COVID-19 in the municipality, the country and globally as well,” Salda said.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte thru Proclamation No. 1128, declared April 27, 2021 as a special day throughout the country to celebrate the quincentennial of the victory of Lapulapu and his men in Mactan against the Spaniards.

Government offices and local government units (LGUs) were urged to spruce up historical landmarks, monuments, and plazas in time for the simultaneous flag-raising ceremony on April 27 in support of the 2021 National Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines.

 DILG Secretary Eduardo Año called on all LGUs in the country to conduct simultaneous flag raising ceremony to celebrate the historic occasion. He also urged the public to emulate the heroism of our ancestors by "conquering yet another battle this time against COVID-19." 
 
“The 500th Anniversary of the Victory of Mactan reminds us of the heroism and bravery of the Filipino race. As we commemorate our ancestors' heroism, may we all find heroes within ourselves by being part of the solution in conquering yet another battle, this time against COVID-19,” said Año. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
