6 new COVID-19 deaths recorded in Ilocos Sur

ILOCOS SUR, May 2 (PIA) - - In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Governor Ryan Luis V. Singson confirmed the deaths of six confirmed COVID-19 cases in the province Saturday, May 1.

Ilocos Sur now has a total of 17 mortalities since its first death recorded on October 31, 2020 in Tagudin town.

The 12th death was IS-C985, a 77-year-old male from Barangay Teppeng, Sinait who died on April 19 with final diagnosis of acute respiratory failure; pneumonia, high risk; COVID-19, critical.

The 13th death was IS-C927, a 72-year-old male from Barangay Bonifacio, Cabugao who died on April 24 with final diagnosis of COVID-19 severe; acute respiratory failure; acute coronary syndrome (T2DM) while IS-C1009, the 14th death was a 76-year-old female from Barangay Don Lorenzo Querubin, Caoayan who also died on the same day.

She was rushed to the Ilocos Sur District Hospital-Gabriela Silang (ISHP-GS) on April 24 due to body weakness where she died on arrival and was later tested positive of COVID-19 after taking swab samples for RT-PCR testing.

The 15th death was IS-C405, a 66-year-old male from Barangay Mira, Bantay who died on April 26 due to respiratory distress syndrome; COVID-19 severe.

The 16th death was IS-C1087, an 81-year-old female resident of Barangay Sabang, Cabugao who died of community acquired pneumonia, high risk; septic shock; hypokalemia; COVID-19 critical on April 29.

Lastly, the 17th death was IS-C1099, a 52-year-old female from Barangay Calimugtong, Galimuyod who died on May 1 due to acute respiratory failure secondary to pulmonary edema; sepsis secondary to otitis media; pneumonia severe; end stage renal disease secondary to diabetes mellitus; COVID-19 critical.

Governor Singson condoles with the patients’ families, relatives and friends in this very difficult time.

He likewise reiterated to the public of their strict observance of the public health standards set by the Department of Health (DOH) especially with the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the province.

Based on the latest COVID-19 tracker of the Provincial Health Office posted on April 30, Ilocos Sur has recorded a total of 1,099 total confirmed COVID-19 cases, 157 are active and 926 are recoveries. (JCR/AMB/JMCQ, PIA Ilocos Sur)
