DavNor Guv urges IPs to stay in their land and cultivate

DAVAO DEL NORTE, May 7 (PIA) – Davao del Norte Governor Edwin I. Jubahib told the Indigenous People (IP) of Sitio Nasilaban, Talaingod to stay in and cultivate their vast land as there is a huge livelihood potential in doing so.

“Kamo ang pinaka swerte nga tao kay dagko ang inyung yuta. Kung tamnan ang inyung yuta, sigurado naa moy income (You are the luckiest people because you have vast land. If you plant in your lands, for sure you will have income),” Jubahib said during the 3rd leg of Adlaw sa Kalinaw on May 5, 2021.

In particular, he pointed out that the IPs have a significant earning potential if they pursue crop and livestock production.

He emphasized that the IP’s “yutang kabilin” is in Talaingod and not in the city, that there is no point in going to a place like Haran where they will only be exploited and abused in order for the communist rebels to earn financial donations from foreign sources.

He assured that the IPs will not have to worry about marketing as the provincial government will directly buy these products from them.

“Dapat mukugi mo ug maayo. Dili ninyo biyaan ang inyong yuta. Mananom mo…ako nang pamaliton (You have to work hard. Don’t leave your land. You plant…I will buy them),” Jubahib said.

With this, he promised that the government will continue to support and assist towards the development of the IP communities. However, he noted that cutting all ties with the NPA is the key to ensuring this development to occur.

Jubahib has identified roads, housing, electricity, water, and schools as the primary needs for the IPs.

“Kinahanglan wala na’y mag NPA para ang hapsay ug kalinaw mag pirmi na dinhi sa lungsod sa Talaingod (It’s necessary that none of you will become NPA so that the peace will continue in Talaingod),” he said.

He explained that if the influence and presence of the NPA continue to exist in Talaingod, a war will eventually take place putting a halt to the development projects of the government and making the IPs of Talaingod be caught in the middle of the crossfire.

On May 5, 2021, the Provincial Government along with National Government Agencies (NGAs) convened to bring their respective services to the IPs of Sitio Nasilaban, Brgy. Dagohoy, Talaingod dubbed as “Adlaw sa Kalinaw Information Service Caravan”. It was also joined by businessman Allan Tan who distributed school supply packs to the IP children.
